Why coconut shells instead of coal?

Most filters use bituminous coal. PURIZE® relies on activated carbon made from coconut shells—which is more porous and therefore filters more effectively. Tar and particles are trapped in the filter, allowing the flavor to come through cleanly. Add to that a sustainable supply chain that’s significantly more resource-efficient than other types of charcoal, plus a patented manufacturing process that specially treats the charcoal to make it exceptionally low in dust. No scratchy sensation, no bitter aftertaste, and—as an added bonus—it’s more sustainable—that’s the difference.
