Why coconut shells instead of coal?

Most filters use coal. PURIZE® uses activated carbon made from coconut shells—which is more porous and therefore filters more effectively. Tar and particles are trapped in the filter, allowing the pure flavor to come through. This is complemented by a patented manufacturing process that specially treats the carbon to make it exceptionally low in dust.
